About the role
Gulf Exchange is licensed by Qatar Central Bank, and the compliance function is what keeps that licence in good standing. In this role you sit between the branch network and the regulator: reviewing the transactions our systems flag, deciding what needs to go further, and making sure the controls described in our AML / CFT policy are what actually happens at the counter.
What you will do
- Review transaction monitoring alerts and customer due diligence referrals from the branches, and clear or escalate them within the agreed turnaround.
- Carry out enhanced due diligence on higher-risk customers and relationships, and keep the supporting file complete.
- Screen customers and counterparties against sanctions and PEP lists, and investigate matches properly rather than clearing them by name alone.
- Prepare suspicious transaction reports and maintain the records that sit behind them.
- Support the MLRO with regulatory reporting, internal risk assessments and responses to QCB queries.
- Deliver refresher training to branch staff so that KYC at the counter is done consistently across all 24 branches.
- Test controls in practice, write up what you find, and follow the remediation through to closure.
What we are looking for
- Experience in AML/CFT compliance at an exchange house, bank, money service business or regulator.
- Working knowledge of Qatar Central Bank AML/CFT requirements and the FATF recommendations they follow.
- Hands-on experience with transaction monitoring and sanctions screening tools.
- Clear written English — a good part of this job is explaining, in writing, why you reached a decision.
- The judgement to distinguish a genuine risk from a false positive, and the confidence to hold a position when someone disagrees.
- A degree in finance, law, accounting or a related field.
Helpful, not essential
- A professional certification such as CAMS, ICA or an equivalent.
- Arabic in addition to English.
- Exposure to remittance corridors across South Asia, South East Asia and East Africa.
